Estate services

We are committed to delivering high quality estate management services that provide you with safe, clean, and pleasant environments in which to live and be proud of.

Grounds maintenance

It’s important to us that the area where you live is well maintained. Our grounds maintenance service looks after communal grassed or planted areas. Here is what you can expect from us.

March to October

Grass cutting

  • You can expect a visit every 14 working days depending on weather conditions. Cuttings are generally mulched and left on site. Mulching is when grass cuttings are returned to the turf as tiny fragments of grass. The recycled fragments then act as protective ‘mulch’ and help to conserve soil moisture, prevent weed growth and moderate soil temperature. Mulching is much more friendly for the environment.

Weed control to planted beds and hard paved areas

  • We will check hard surfaces and treat weeds depending on weather conditions. We will use herbicide to control weeds in planted beds.

Control of moss on hard paved areas

  • By request.

Shrub and Hedge

  • All hedges and shrubs will be kept tidy, pruned or cut to maintain a neat line and definition and to remove any health and safety obstruction. Under the Wildlife & Country Act 1981, we are unable to cut hedges between March and July, or beyond that time if there is visible evidence of nesting birds.

Litter picking

  • During grounds maintenance visits our teams will remove litter from beds, borders, and shrubs.
November to February

Leaf control

  • We will blow leaves from paths and hardstanding on our monthly visits to general needs areas.
  • Monthly visits to older people and extra care schemes where leaves will be cleared from paths and hardstanding and removed from site.

Seasonal and weather permitting tasks

We will carry out scheduled grounds maintenance tasks but they are dependent on the season and suitable weather conditions. For example, we cannot cut grass if the ground is too wet to mow.

FAQs

Can I pay Platform to cut the grass in my own garden?

This is not a service we can offer.

I am concerned about a tree, what can I do about it?

If you are concerned about the condition of a tree on Rooftop communal land, please report this to our customer service team here. We manage our tree stock based on risk. Therefore, only trees deemed dead, dying, diseased or dangerous will be attended to.

Do you recycle all your green waste?

Yes, we take it to an approved waste recycling centre.

Am I able to plant a tree, rose or shrub in the communal area in memory of a loved one?

Please contact us to discuss your request before making any purchases. It's something we may give permission for, but we must consider the ongoing care and maintenance.

Will cut up litter be removed when grass is cut?

Yes, we try to remove all litter before we start but if we do cut some up, it will be removed so the area is left clean and tidy.

Who do I contact if I am not happy with the standard of the grounds maintenance services?

Please call or email us - you can find the contact details here. Alternatively, you can speak to your local Estate Inspector, if you have one in your area.

Why do you not cut an area of grass on our estate?

Rooftop does not own all of the grassed areas on every estate. Some may be owned by your local County or District Council or is maintained by your Town or Parish Council.
