Where we build

Rooftop provides housing in South Worcestershire and North Gloucestershire.

We build in areas of need providing affordable housing ensuring that local people can remain in their communities.

We are always looking for new areas where we can provide housing. If you have land or are aware of any land which you believe can be redeveloped to help provide affordable housing please contact us.

Sustainable Building

Rooftop is committed to building great homes and communities that are environmentally sustainable and supported by responsible business practices.

We understand the impact that fuel poverty has on our customers, especially for those living in very rural areas where there is limited access to mains gas. Our Asset Management Strategy provides a mix of renewable technology solutions such as solar panels, ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps as well as improved internal and external wall insulation to combat this.

We adopt a fabric first approach in our new homes supplemented by renewable technologies including solar panels and air source heat pumps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and keep utility bills low for our customers. We also incorporate items such as water butts, recycling bins and composting facilities in new developments to encourage our customers to live in a more environmentally friendly manner.

We also recognise the importance of the wider environment and therefore we also seek to enhance the quality of the natural landscape by using native planting, bat and bird boxes and wildflower meadows to increase biodiversity as well as creating a pleasant setting for our new homes.

Solar Panels

Solar panels capture the sun’s energy and convert it into electricity that you can use in your home. The solar panels that are installed on your home are generating your own renewable energy and provide you with free electricity.

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) is a centralised, whole-house system which delivers fresh air throughout the home, but also recovers heat from the home to warm incoming air. It is designed to run continuously all year round. Different rooms in your house create different levels of heat. Your ‘wet’ and hotter rooms are the bathrooms and kitchen, which generate additional heat through activities such as cooking and showers.

With a MVHR system, this warm, stale air is passed through a heat exchanger (usually positioned in an insulated loft), and the heat extracted is then used to warm the incoming fresh air. (Fresh air is drawn in from outside and filtered.) The pre-warmed, filtered fresh air is then delivered (free of moisture and cooking smells) into the living areas through a ducting system with outlets in the ceilings of every room.

Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP)

An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) transfers heat from the outside air to water. It works by absorbing the heat from the outside air into a fluid. This fluid then passes through a heat exchanger in the heat pump, which raises the temperature and then transfers that heat to water. This in turn heats rooms in your home via radiators or underfloor heating. It can also heat water stored in a hot water cylinder for your hot taps, showers, and baths.
