Keep your community clean: recycle and help stop fly-tipping

Rooftop Communications Team
April 1, 2025

At Rooftop, we are all committed to maintaining a clean and safe environment for everyone. However, it’s important to note that improper waste disposal and fly-tipping result in an annual cost of £75,000 on waste collection. This is a significant amount that could be better invested in modernising and improving your homes and strengthening your community.

By ensuring waste is properly disposed of or recycled, we can work together to make a positive impact. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a cleaner, safer space for all.

Recycle better

Use the correct bins for your waste. Check your local council's website to see:

• what kind of household waste your council will collect,

• how to order a new bin if you need one,

• your bin collection day.

Your council may provide other waste collection services, such as recycling, garden waste, or food waste.

You can check what services your council provides by going to their website.

Find your local council - GOV.UK

Dispose of large items correctly

If you have bulky waste like furniture or appliances, check with your local council for collection services. Please do not leave them in shared areas.

No fly-tipping

Dumping waste in public spaces is illegal and harmful to the environment. It is also a serious breach of tenancy and has severe consequences. If we determine you have fly-tipped during your tenancy, legal action, including injunctions or possession, may be taken. Reports of fly-tipping will be sent to the Environmental Health Agency, which could result in fines, legal convictions, or even a prison sentence. Any cost of clearing dumped waste will be added to your rent account.

If you see fly-tipping in your community, report it to the council or contact your Neighbourhood Housing Officer (link to NHOs page)

Keep shared areas clean

Proper waste disposal makes our neighbourhoods cleaner, safer and more pleasant for everyone.

Volunteering for a cleaner community

In March, some of our colleagues voluntarily joined a litter pick in the Evesham community, as part of Keep Britain Tidy's Great British Spring Clean. Their efforts help keep our environment clean and show the positive impact of working together.

Let's keep our community clean and work together to make a real difference. Thank you for doing your part.
