At Rooftop, we ensure our homes, buildings and communal areas are safe, well-maintained and meet the latest safety standards.
The government has introduced new electrical safety regulations for social housing in England. The updated rules require social housing providers to carry out five-yearly electrical safety checks across their housing stock and to provide customers with copies of the Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). (For other new requirements, please click the government website for details: Electrical safety standards in the private and social rented sectors: guidance - GOV.UK
While these are new national requirements, electrical safety checks every five years by a qualified electrician have already been part of our existing electrical safety policy.
Starting May 2026, after your electrical safety check is completed, we will send you a copy of the EICR within 28 days. The report will include recommendations as to what action (if any) is required and confirm if the installation is safe for continued use. Remedial works identified in an EICR must be completed within 28 days under the new rules.
If your home is due for an electric safety check, we will contact you directly to arrange an appointment. It is important that you give access to the electrician so these essential safety checks can take place.
