It’s Gas Safety Week this week, a timely reminder to ‘Take No Chances’ when it comes to gas safety.
As your reliable landlord, we’re legally responsible for the annual gas safety check of your home and that all the checks are carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. In 2025/26, we achieved 100% gas compliance across our 7000 homes.
Keeping your home safe is a shared responsibility, and there are simple steps you can take to protect yourself and your household.
Keep your annual gas safety appointment
One of the most important things you can do is keep your annual gas safety appointment and allow our Gas Safe registered engineer access to your home.
When you receive your appointment letter, please check the date and time carefully. If the appointment isn't convenient, contact us as soon as possible and we'll arrange an alternative date.
During the visit, the engineer will inspect:
- Gas pipework
- Flues
- Any gas appliances provided by us
If you own any gas appliances yourself, such as a cooker, it's your responsibility to ensure they are checked every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Know the warning signs
Unsafe gas appliances can be dangerous, so it's important to recognise the warning signs.
Look out for:
- Yellow or orange flames instead of crisp blue ones
- Black marks or staining around an appliance
- A pilot light that frequently goes out
- Excessive condensation in the room
- Error messages appearing on an appliance display
If you notice any of these signs, stop using the appliance and seek professional advice immediately.
What to do if you suspect a gas leak
If you smell gas or believe there may be a gas or carbon monoxide leak, open the window and doors, leave your home and call the National Gas Emergencies number immediately on 0800 111 999.
Never ignore the signs of a gas leak. Acting quickly could save lives.
Working together to stay safe
Gas safety checks help ensure your home remains safe for you and your family. By keeping your annual appointment, staying alert to warning signs, and acting quickly in an emergency, we can work together to keep everyone safe throughout the year.
