June is Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month 2026, and this year’s theme, Onwards With Hope, celebrates the power of hope in building stronger and brighter futures for Gypsy Roma and Traveller (GRT) communities.
At Rooftop, we are proud to support people from GRT communities by providing safe, culturally appropriate homes and listening to the voices of our customers.
We know that understanding and good communication are important in helping communities feel supported and included. We are pleased to have secured £75,000 in government funding recently for a new project called Virtual Voices: Enhancing GRT Engagement Through Accessible Communication, to support customers living across 53 pitches we manage in Wythall, Coventry and Solihull.
The project will help us improve how we communicate with GRT communities by making information easier to access through WhatsApp’s voice memo function. A dedicated WhatsApp channel will be set up to support the GRT customers who find speaking easier than writing. We aim to encourage more open engagement, remove barriers and influence services to suit their needs.
GRT History Month is also a time to celebrate the rich history, culture and contribution of GRT communities across the UK. We encourage learning about the barriers that GRT communities face, raise awareness and help break down those barriers, prejudice and discrimination.
Rooftop is proud to stand alongside our customers and continue working together with various partners towards a more inclusive and better future.
What’s on in Worcestershire during GRTHM 2026 in June
Worcestershire has a large GRT population with a rich local history, but communities often face health inequalities and discrimination.
This June the Worcestershire GRT Partner Network and Circle of Hope GRT Support are raising awareness and celebrating their cultures, traditions and some of the great things going on in Worcestershire.
