In recognition of Remembrance Day, Rooftop Housing Group reaffirms our support for the Armed Forced community through a series of initiatives aimed at honouring veterans, active service members and their families.
On 8 November, nine colleagues from Rooftop undertook a challenging 20-mile walkfrom Worcester to Evesham to raise funds for a local military charity. They carried a combined weight of 40kg. A weight a soldier might bear in fitness training and combat. After completing the journey in 7 hours 10 minutes, the group successfully raised £1,037.10 to support Stepway, a military charity in Worcestershire that aids veterans and their families in transitioning to civilian life.
“This is an incredibly impactful experience. Starting at the Norton Barracks Memorial and finishing at Evesham War Memorial, I was reminded of the miles soldiers hadmarched in search of safety and security. Walking as a team and carrying the shared weight deepened my respect for those serving or have served,” Sophie Round, one of the Rooftop’s Veteran Champions said.
This fundraising event is part of Rooftop’s broader commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community. As a signatory of the Armed Forced Covenant (AFC), the Evesham-based housing association has actively worked on projects like St. Helena Court in Norton to provide housing for veterans. Rooftop was awarded bronze status in the AFC Employer Recognition Scheme in September 2023, reflecting our ongoing effort.
On 11 November, residents and staff from Rooftop gathered to remember and honour those who have served and made the greatest sacrifice to fight for our freedom. Our Retirement Living and Housing with Care schemes across the area participated in Remembrance services and enjoyed cake and refreshments afterwards.
Additionally, board members from Rooftop attended wreath-laying ceremonies in Evesham, Pershore and Bishop’s Cleeve, honouring veterans in the wider community.
In our Evesham office, we created a poppy window display filled with heartfelt messages from colleagues and community members honouring veterans and those who sacrificed.
“We’re honoured to support veterans through our housing projects and other initiatives. This Remembrance Day, we remember the sacrifices made by so many and reaffirm our commitment to supporting our Armed Forces community,” Boris Worrall, Rooftop Housing Group Chief Executive said.
