Rooftop Housing Group has become the latest organisation to sign the UK Armed Forces Covenant – a commitment to support the Armed Forces community.
On 1 August 2023, the Evesham-based housing association joined thousands of organisations, including local authorities, businesses and charities in the UK, by signing the Armed Forces Covenant.
The Covenant is a promise by the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the armed forces and their families are treated fairly.
"Rooftop is honoured and privileged to sign the Armed Forces Covenant to support reservists and veterans. We will endeavour to uphold the principles of the Covenant in our business, to ensure our veterans and their families are treated with fairness and respect, and give them the support they deserve,” Boris Worrall, Rooftop Group Chief Executive, said.
As a housing association, Rooftop has been working on a local project to help veterans by providing them with homes at St. Helena Court, Norton.
By signing the Covenant, Rooftop will work with Local Authority partners and other agencies to provide accommodation for veterans who are homeless in line with Localism Act requirements and with identified housing needs and banding.
Rooftop will also ensure organisational understanding of possible support requirements and recognition by external partners, where additional benefits or services maybe granted to veterans.
They will also signpost serving and veteran personnel to specialist support services as appropriate and provide advice on money management and access to benefits when needed.
Within Rooftop colleagues are able to take volunteer leave for those who wish to support the cadet unit, and they also support colleagues in the Reserve Forces and Military Cadet Adult Instructors by accommodating their training and deployment where possible.
